The MADgicWand helps to reduce fiber optic intubation stress by providing thorough, precise topical anesthetic deposition. The MADgicWand blade readily retracts the tongue and allows distribution of topical anesthetic to the difficult to reach hypo-pharyngeal and glottic areas. This quick method achieves superior anesthetic effect so that patients tolerate the procedure better and cases move faster.
Anesthize the mouth and oropharynx with the MADgicWand.
Incrementally spray posterior tongue and throat with topical anesthetic, slowly advancing the MADgicWand as tolerated.
With the MADgicWand aimed at the vocal chords, ask patient to take slow, deep inspirations and atomize 0.2-0.4cc volumes with each breath to anesthetize chords and upper larynx.
Proceed with intubation.
