Intranasal Medication Delivery
Intranasal medication delivery offers a rapidly effective method to deliver selected medications to a patient without the need for a painful shot and without the delays in onset seen with oral medications. There are numerous advantages to intranasal medication delivery:
- Ease of delivery with no special training required
- Reduced utilization of nursing time and resources (no need to start an IV)
- Rapid onset of clinical effect (drug absorbed directly into blood stream and CSF)
- Painless delivery with no need for a shot
- No risk of a contaminated needle stick to the medical provider
- Patient and parent satisfaction and improved patient throughput in the clinic (i.e. faster time through the clinic or emergency room.)
This method of drug delivery also has extensive literature support confirming its safety and efficacy. However, to achieve optimal results the delivery system must be user friendly while also delivering the drug across a broad mucosal surface with little runoff into the throat. The MAD nasal provides such a delivery system – it will deliver an exact dose of medication from any position in a few seconds. It delivers that drug as a fine mist that covers a maximal mucosal surface with little run off into the throat and it can be easily administered to an uncooperative patient.
